Sorry if this adds to your stressometer, but your change to the width had the opposite effect in my browser (Mozilla Firefox). I suspect this is a browser-specific issue. —Brent Dax 22:53, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

D[h]ivehi?

[edit]

Thank you for your explanation (now remains question which form should be used, ISO standard or "real life", but I leave this for smarter people than me). I moved the answer to Talk:Dhivehi language, so others can see it also. --TarmoK 12:21, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I reckon that it should be Divehi, which is what English-speakers know the Maldivian language as. - (Aidan Work 05:35, 17 January 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Pencil picture

[edit]

I just wanted to say that I like your pencil article illustration very much so I was sad to read the offensive (to me, at least) comments by Silversmith in the Featured Pic area of WP. Most Wilkipedians would have phrased their criticisms more kindly or at least acknowledged that the criticisms were badly phrased. Best Wishes -Adrian Pingstone 16:15, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Mv-stub

[edit]

Hi - we over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting have just found out about Mv-stub, which you created recently. Stub templates are normally created after a long debate at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria, to confirm that any proposed new stub template meets certain key criteria. These criteria include a need based on at least 60 and preferably 100 stubs currently existing on the topic, conforming to current stub hierarchies, and being appropriately named (this includes things like not abbreviating country names except in cases where the abbreviation is as well known as the full country name, and could not readily be mistaken for something else). I have listed the new template at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting#Newly-discovered stub categories - if you would like to comment about the new stub, we would be delighted to hear from you! PS - several of the stubs you've put in that category are geo-stubs rather than generial stubs, too! Grutness...wha? 08:52, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

PS - if you're looking for Maldives geo-stubs to go in there, then Kadhdhoo Island, Kaadedhdhoo Island, Lohifushi, Malé, Huvadhu, Ari, Addu, Fua Mulaku, and Hanimaadhoo Island can go in there too (just don't remove the asia-geo-stub template!) Grutness...wha? 08:58, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Gruntes, Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting#Newly-discovered stub categories does not exist! The reason for creating {{Mv-stub}} is, Maldivian wiki-contributors are relatively small (some 20?, pretty low wikiholic level). The idea of this template is to list all Maldive-related artilces under the category Maldives and expose the artilces to this small community, inorder to speedy-expand them. Also i did read the policy on creation of the new-stub, but got kinda confused. Asked for help in #wikipedia in IRC but there wasnt any response. --Oblivious 09:04, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I think he means Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria#Newly-discovered_stub_categories. --W(t) 09:06, 2005 Jun 5 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria#Newly-discovered_stub_categories is right - sorry. It would have been far better to have actually asked at WP:WSS, which is linked from the top of all stub-related pages, or at the Village Pump (that's the reason that's there!) - only a small proportion of Wikipedians use IRC. In any case, there are far better ways to get Maldivian editors to see what pages there are and what pages need doing than to use a stub template - the easiest and best is to set up a notice board for Maldivian Wikipedians, which is very easy to do (far easier than going through the rigmarole of creating a stub template, a stub category, listing it everywhere it needs to be listed, and altering all the articles that should have it!). Simply create a page at Wikipedia:Maldivian Wikipedians' notice board, put a list of the article names there, and leave a note about it at pages like Talk:Maldives. Creating a stub template just makes more work for stub sorters and more work for Wikipedia's computer servers, which are already struggling. "Gruntes"? Grutness...wha? 09:23, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks "Gruntes" and "Grutness"... haha Devilishy smiles --Oblivious 09:44, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi again - you wrote: Is {{Mv-stub}} being kept without deleted...? I was hoping you'd be in contact to ast that sort of question, since you created it. It probably should go - it's never likely to be used much (it only has 10 stubs at the moment), and the Maldives notice board (assuming you managed to get it running OK) is probably a better way of handling the stubs. Also, we try to avoid using just the ISO abbreviations, since they could stand for lots of other things (It could be motor vehicle stubs, for instance). It hasn't gone over to the stubs for deletion page yet simply because there are so many other stubs that ned to be looked at there. If you're happy enough to see it go, though, I'll propose it for deletion. Grutness...wha? 04:26, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Smart Quotes damage

[edit]

Can you clean up the smart quotes damage? [1] "the country’s economy", etc. (SEWilco 02:33, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC))

If I am not mistaken, you are asking to make this → ' to this → ’ (including double and single quotes) in articles? preferably Maldives-related, right? --Oblivious 02:43, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I mean use standard characters; use apostrophe instead of "’". (SEWilco 02:54, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC))

Dhivehi Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi Oblivious,

I was wondering, have you ever considered doing some work for the Dhivehi Wikipedia?

It's really in a state of disrepair right now and could use some help. The best thing anyone could probably do for it would be to get sysop status there, and translate the user interface. Maybe create a few articles, too...

See the Dhivehi Wikipedia.

Also, I was wondering if you could give me the translation for the logo? The text is "Wikipedia -- the free encyclopedia". In this case, "free" means as in free software (unrestrained), not "free" as in "free food".

Cheers Node

Hi again,
For help with Gabuli Taana fonts, you can go to http://www.mitf.net/index.php/projects/thaana/font-unicode.html
For input in Taana, you may use http://www.mitf.net/encoder.php (you input Dhivehi text in the English alphabet, and it converts it to Thaana)

[edit]

The reason for the external links in the fair use templates is so that if the content and template are ported and re-used, they still lead to the right places. For what are essentially quasi-legal statements about who is representing the licensing status, this is important. That is, that particular license is only really valid on the English language Wikipedia. If that link is set to link to the main page of whatever Wiki it is running on, that will not necessarily link to the correct place at all if it is ported somewhere else, and will be confusing and inaccurate. --Fastfission 14:57, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In that case I'll have to revert {{TIME}} too. Thanks --15:03, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

Maldives-geo-stub

For your extensive work in articles pertaining to The Maldives, I hereby award you The Barnstar of National Merit! Grutness 10:28, 27 August 2005 (UTC) [reply]

Hi Oblivious - all the work you've done at making stub articles about Maldivian atolls has convinced Wikiproject Stub sorting that it's about time for a {{Maldives-geo-stub}}. I've started to convert over some of the articles to the new template - if you find any I've missed, please could you change them over? Also please let anyone else you know who could be making Maldives geography articles about the new template. Thanks! Grutness...wha? 08:40, 27 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing. Something close to 1000 stubs will be in this category when I am finished with all the uninhabited islands. so obviously we need {{Maldives-geo-stub}} --08:45, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

I started helping you on some of those too.

Okay, I did over half of them, but I have to go now. In order to save yourself the trouble of retyping the titles for articles like that, use this:

{{Maldives uninhabited island| ImageExists=No| islandimage=| island={{PAGENAME}}| atoll=Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll| location= | length=| width=| }} '''{{PAGENAME}}''' is one of the uninhabited islands of [[Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll]]. {{Maldives-geo-stub}}

Here is a Working Man's Barnstar for doing such tedious jobs on Wikipedia.

Take care,

V. Molotov

23:41, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip... but I've generated the pages from a PHP script. Therefore I am not retyping the titles. Also when {{PAGENAME}} variable is used, the atoll name used to disambigute will be dipslayed in the article where applicable. --Oblivious 00:32, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maldives unhabited Islands

[edit]

For some reason, this happens when you try to edit a page last edited by someone else.

An edit conflict should only happen when someone else has edited the page in-between the time you open an edit page and submit.

Dunno, I'll have try and figure out why this happens... - Keith D. Tyler 20:00, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Got it, I think -- I wasn't passing all needed edit pass-back variables to the server, namely wpEditTime. Apparently MW does not throw an edit conflict if you are conflicting with yourself, so the bug didn't appear if you were editing on top of your own prior edit (or a new page). I am putting the new code up now, so have a try. - Keith D. Tyler 20:19, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Edits on Gnaviyani Atoll

[edit]

Hey. I appreciate the link to the Ministry of Atolls website in my discussion page. Only one question - why is it that Wiki lists the new atoll names, yet the Ministry site still uses the former (old) names? Every other site I go to lists the name as "Naviyani" with "Gnaviyani" as a variant of the name (in the English speaking world) - these are geographers who have done research with both the UN Cartography Department and Maldives Census. So it is a bit confusing. Can you provide me with more insight, being that you are a 'local expert' being a native Maldivian? Thanks! :) Rarelibra (talk)

Thank you for that Oblivious. Translating Maldivian names into English poses a real problem. The names of the Sultans of the Maldive Islands is a point in case. Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Ahmed moosa 2005.png. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I've seen a few similar examples where people have e-mailed permission. This one is complicated: Image:Tank Man (Tiananmen Square protester).jpg. A simpler one: Image:RX-78GP04.GIF. I'm not an expert but I think you need to make some attempt at explaining how you got permission (in case Wikipedia gets sued) and then you're pretty much covered. Take a look through Wikipedia:Requested copyright examinations and the tags listed in the first message above (also Wikipedia talk:Fair use which has some interesting dialogue). If the person who gave you permission said it could be considered public domain, it looks like you could use {{PD-release}} but definitely enquire at Wikipedia:Requested copyright examinations first if you're not 100% sure. —Wknight94 (talk) 22:59, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

[edit]

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:10, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About Mahl and evolution of judiciary

[edit]

Hi, Oblivious,

The article about Evolution of Judiciary in Maldives is actually the work of one of my friends, so i'll talk him about the improvement. And in the case of Mahl/Dhivehi in dv:wikipedia, it is used like wise because though in Maldives it is called Dhivehi (Divehi) it is also spoken in Minicoy (India) where it is known as Mahl. And in Indian official writings it is used as Mahl. Since wikipedia is not for the country Maldives but for the Language Minicoians have the right to get benefit from it. So to eliminate the alienation it is used so. And as Maldivians, Minicoians will enjoy the free encyclopedia in their language to us as Dhivehi wikipedia and to them as Mahl wikipedia. No harm and so cool..

If you are in Male' (Maldives) and give me a ring @ (+960) 9991017 - we can meet in a coffee and discuss to develop dv:wikipedia. Think it will be cool.

License tagging for Image:US Presidential Seal-svg-vs.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:US Presidential Seal-svg-vs.png. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:11, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

svg vs png
Hello Keeleysam,
Just to inform you about a mistake the presidential seal, when svg is rendered from the browsers I tried. Initially the vector, in svg format, was uploaded by Fizan. After uploading he found that svg version doesn't render as expected. He then posted about it, requesting to remove the backround, on this talk page. Since there are rendering issues with the svg, I uploaded the png (with transparent background). The version of svg uploaded by you looks almost how-its-suppose-to-be, except the banner on eagle's beak, above the head. --Oblivious 17:26, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tnavbar usage :-)

[edit]

Greetings, can I ask you a bit of favor? I see you're using the new Template:Tnavbar with gusto and that is your perogative (it's actually great in all honesty!) but I would kindly request that you slow down a bit as you're adding it to templates that most likely need the same type of thing but in a different form. I'm in the process of formulating alternative templates similiar to this one that are more appropriate for different kinds of sized/shaped templates. Does that sound fair? By all means though please continue to add it to templates that roughly look like Template:Buddhism for example because Tnavbar is particularly adapted for this dimension of template. Thanks! Netscott 22:43, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers! You're the first editor I've noticed implementing this new template... but I'm now noticing that a bunch of folks are using it... the "What links here" count seem to be growing exponentially. Ok, I was talking the other day about how I was in the process of creating another more universal Tnavbar... well Template:Tnavbar-mini is what I've come up with. I've applied it to Template:Bahá'í-2 where you can see how it is and how it was. I'd say it's a pretty significant improvement. I'm not sure what else can be done to "slim-line" this sort of a template to make it easier for it to blend in generically to the greatest number of templates but this is the best I've been able to do so far. Perhaps you might have an idea or two? Please don't hesitate to use this new template where appropriate. Thanks! Netscott 22:12, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: I was noticing that you're adding Tnavbar-minin and Tnavbar to more templates (Great!). I took at look at Template:Sejm_Marshals_of_the_Polish-Lithuanian_Commonwealth and saw that the formatting needed a bit of touching up. You might want to review the changes I made and perhaps try to apply them yourself for other templates similar to that one that you may again come across. Also thanks for the "See also" links... that was definitely needed. ;-) Cheers and thanks for your assitance developing these templates! :-) Netscott 22:13, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) --Oblivious 22:16, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: One last point, on Template:Most Active Regional blocs I noticed you used Template:Tnavbar-mini. It's a minor issue I suppose but on tall oblong templates like that I think Template:Tnavbar is more appropriate (just thinking in terms of style guide wise). That's my personal opinion obviously and go ahead and do what you want... the main thing is adding editing access functionality. Cheers again! Netscott 23:16, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Looking good ;-) I forgot to thank you also for helping to update templates... it'll be great when they've all got easier editing access. :-) Netscott 23:24, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Very cool! Excellent addition on your part of the examples section that really adds a lot! Cheers! Netscott 22:38, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Lucien Laurent.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lucien Laurent.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

New Tnavbars

[edit]

Hello Oblivious, just thought I'd inform you of new Tnavbars: Template:Tnavbar-header and Template:Tnavbar-mini-all. You can see how the first works on Template:Football_World_Cup_squads as well as Template:Manhattan. Template:Tnavbar-mini-all is likely going to be best used on templates that are project related as opposed to article related. I'm planning on developing more Tnavbars but I thought I'd bring you up to speed in the meantime. Thanks! Netscott 03:08, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Casualties table change in 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict

[edit]

I noticed you added "class wikitable" to the table in the casualties section. I'm not terribly good with tables, so I have no idea how to do this - could you possibly align the "entity" column to the left, as centred looks wrong, and allow the table to hover in the centre of that section? Why should I? Why do you keep deleting my links? Have you ever looked through the content of my site? I have never posted a link to a topic that is not related to the content in my site. It is your responsibility to ensure that everybody has equal rights here at Wikipedia which, I am sure, is the aim of the organizers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.1.192.1 (talkcontribs)

For confused minds, the user is talking about this revert on the Maldives article. I keep removing the links you posted as per Wikipedia:External_links. If you go through this guideline you will find the reasons. I would specifically highlight this point from the policy → Links that are added to promote a site, that primarily exist to sell products or services, with objectionable amounts of advertising.... The article is about the Maldives and the website is primarily focused on the Tourism. The content of your webiste is very comprehensive and useful, I agree, and you may want to include the link in Tourism in the Maldives as it is more relavent to this particular article. Also about the equal rights, you may want to read Wikipedia is not an experiment in democracy. Thanks --Oblivious 17:41, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Updating Template:Maldives Island

I think it would be a good idea to update the current Template:Maldives Island. New Tnavbar concept

[edit]

Hello Oblivious.. I thought of a simpler way to implement Tnavbar. This idea will allow editors to include whatever Wikipedia options they want on a given template. I've made a preliminary template and I wanted to show it to you and see what you thought. Check it out:

These are produced by the following code.

{{v|User_Maldives}}
{{v|d|template=User_Maldives}}
{{v|d|e|template=User_Maldives}}
{{v|d|e|h|template=User_Maldives}}
{{v|d|e|h|m|template=User_Maldives}}
{{v|d|e|h|m|w|template=User_Maldives}}

What do you think? (Netscott) 00:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've just added another one as well:

I'm thinking this might be the future of Tnavbar... this new system is very universal and easy to understand so it should be easy for editors to adopt. (Netscott) 01:34, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

[edit]

i dont think the Template dv:Template:Infobox Album or checkout the article dv:ސިލްވަރ ސައިޑް އަޕް is correct. It seems the pictures nad the template itself is bigger than the english one. Also Template Single. Its About single songs. Please check it out. I couldn't figure it!! --Glacious 07:29, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You just missed evaluating fuction, an auxiliary template, to set the cover size to a minimum of 200px. Since this wasnt available, normal wiki image tag (without size defined) expanded when template was transcluded and that resulted the full image within the article, expanding the infobox. --Oblivious 07:56, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Maldives_National_Emblem.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Maldives_National_Emblem.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BJTalk 03:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 06:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

on removed image

[edit]

I was not referring to a small amount of photoshopping. The whole lower right quarter of the image was missing and I rebuilt it using fragments from the sea in the lower left corner. The sky was stained with a dark liquiud, so it was totally redrawn. The reef in the background was only visible in a few small patches, so I recreated the efect of it. If I would have made a pencil drawing of that same picture I would have spent less time. Therefore I was not claiming to be the creator of the image without a reason.Mohonu 09:24, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Snakes on a Plane redirects

[edit]

Hi, I thought some of your Snakes on a Plane redirects were a bit over the top. I listed them on Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. Edward 13:20, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Oblivious, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Wataniya Maldives.svg) was found at the following location: User:Oblivious/MySand. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. Maps disappeared

[edit]

Hello Oblivious. I have noticed that some maps of the atolls of the Maldives have disappeared. For example Kaafu Atoll. Something seems to be wrong.Mohonu 07:00, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This image is being called from commons (its not physically located under en.wikipedia.org) and there appears to be a technical problem displaying them (the ones at commons) here. See wikipage of the image Image:Kaafu_Atoll.jpg --Oblivious 13:53, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, my mistake. There was a call to png image when it really was a jpg and since there wasnt a png file with this name in either wikipedia or commons, mediawiki (wikipedia software) generated this error --Oblivious 13:59, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Finance in Maldives

[edit]

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Finance in Maldives, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but yours may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Gavin Collins 03:32, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gavin Collins, you are mistaken. This article was not created by me. It was created by wikipedia user Waddey. Thanks --Oblivious 04:18, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Bodéhuttaa

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Bodéhuttaa, by DroEsperanto, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Bodéhuttaa seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Bodéhuttaa, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Bodéhuttaa itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 22:47, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ithaa1.jpg.

Thank you. —Angr 19:48, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Ithaa sinking 1.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Ithaa sinking 1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 19:48, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ithaa

[edit]

Oblivious, I have a question about the whole Ithaa restaurant article. Is it OK in Wikipedia to promote a certain restaurant? It looks like an advertisement to me and its presence dubious in an Encyclopedia. I might be wrong though. That is why I am asking you.Mohonu 15:59, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Usually such articles are considered advertisement unless there is something notable about the place in question. In Ithaa's case it is notable for encyclopedia because it is the first of its kinds — first underwater restaurant. --Oblivious 14:16, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Licensing of Maldives maps

[edit]

Greetings -- could you dual license your excellent maps of Maldives' atolls under Creative Commons by-sa 1.0? This would allow us to use them on Wikitravel. Jpatokal 07:22, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jpatokal! I am currently a bit busy to tag them. You may tag the image and use it in Wikitravel. Thanks --Oblivious 17:37, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maldives Scouting

[edit]

Can you help render "Be Prepared", the Scout Motto, into Divehi? Thanks! Chris 04:48, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the translation to article. I am not very sure if I get the exact translation used by local association. I'll try to contact them and update if there is any problem with it. --Oblivious 04:57, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! How do you pronounce it? Can you also do the same for the Divehi of The Scout Association of Maldives and the Maldives Girl Guide Association? Chris 05:09, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm not trying to speak it, but if you look on the talk:Scout Motto, there's a column just in case anyone wants to try. Also, I know the English names are used on the articles, but it would be nice to also have the Divehi. Thanks again! Chris 05:16, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Bank of maldives logo.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:45, 12 September 2007 (UTC). Thanks for uploading Image:Kurinbi island 2003.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. A tag has been placed on Template:MaldiveAtoll/ImageNo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Fair use rationale for Image:Sjack aku.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sjack aku.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. treelo radda 13:40, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Hussain_yoosuf.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:03, 29 August 2008 (UTC). Thanks for uploading Image:Haveeru front cover May 23 2006.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Proposed deletion of Aarah (Kaafu Atoll)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Aarah (Kaafu Atoll), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

notability is not established

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello Oblivious! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 5 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:53, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:TMV aerial.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:TMV aerial.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.flickr.com/photos/two-dead-fish/82705120/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Replaceable fair use File:Burning riot02.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Burning riot02.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 06:40, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Street debris riot02.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Street debris riot02.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 05:04, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article Haggnaameedhoo (Alif Dhaal Atoll) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Entirely unsourced article about a small island. The only content is unsourced legends and anecdotes. A new editor is repeatedly adding copyright violating material to the article, with yet more legends and anecdotes.

The article makes no claim of any significance or notability for this island, and gives no information at all about it.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
